“Attacks on Iran are a violation of international law,” said Swiss Defense Minister Martin Pfister.
“The United States and Israel violated international law with their attacks on Iran”: This statement was made by Swiss Defense Minister Martin Pfister in an interview published on March 8.
Pfister was the latest European leader to express his concerns about the conflict.
Legal experts stated that many countries will accept these attacks without justification under the United Nations Charter. Under this condition, member states must refrain from using force or threatening to use force without United Nations authorization or outside of legitimate defense.
Pfister told the SonntagsZeitung newspaper: "The Federal Council is of the opinion that the attack on Iran is a violation of international law."
"In our opinion, this is a violation of the prohibition of violence." He also called on all parties to stop the conflict for the protection of civilians. The Federal Council is the Swiss cabinet.
Pfister said that he meant all countries that did not comply with the ban on violence, including the USA and Israel.
“The Americans and Israel attacked Iran from the air. By doing this, they, like Iran, violated international law," he added.
These statements coincide with the words of German Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil. Klingbeil told the RND newspaper network that there are "serious suspicions that this war is legitimate in terms of international law".
Klingbeil also strongly opposed the idea of any possible involvement of Germany in the war: “I say it clearly: this is not our war. We will not participate in this war.”
“There is a great danger that we are increasingly dragged into a world where the rules no longer apply,” he added.
“We don't want to live in a world where only the law of the strongest applies,” he said.
Spain also condemned the US and Israel's bombing of Iran as reckless and illegal.
